The Drawing to Learn and Learning to Draw program by Squiggle Kids (DLLD program) aims to inspire and equip parents, carers, families and educators to engage in drawing activities with pre-school children to enhance their learning and development outcomes, particularly as they relate to language development and literacy.
Our program builds on the existing knowledge and practices of parents and educators and, by facilitating hands-on activities and sharing information and research, demonstrates how to use drawing activities to stimulate and extend the development of oral language, shared and imaginary play and social interaction.
The DLLD program is delivered in three packages, each tailored to different audiences:
- SK Incursion and Resource Package
- SK Parent Workshop and Resource Package
- SK Professional Training and Resource Package
The content of each package is aligned with the VEYLDF and will be tailored to the kindergarten. The features of each package are set out below.

In addition to the packages:
- Take home packs: To help parents, carers and children continue learning and development through drawing after a Squiggle Kids session, we can supply a specially curated pack of drawing tools, materials and resources to take home. Packs are priced between $30-$38 (GST inc) each. Postage of the packs to the kindergarten or to individual homes is additional.
- Squiggle Kids drawing story books: Squiggle Kids drawing story books are a great resource for kinder and for home. Each book includes a fun and engaging narrative and simple drawing prompts to encourage children to draw and to build confidence drawing. View our current range here. New books are often added to our range. We can supply one or more books for use in a kindergarten setting, including sharing with kindergarten families. Prices start at $55 (GST inc) for an electronic copy of one book and vary depending on the number of children at the kindergarten. Discounts apply for purchase of multiple books. Please note that the pricing on the shop on this website is for personal household use not kinder or other organisational use.
1-hour in-person incursion for up to 15 children and one adult per child that includes:
- pre-meet (online/phone) with the lead educator to determine incursion theme, room set up, any specific needs of children
- incursion session facilitated by Squiggle Kids including: information for parent/carers and a parent/carer/child drawing activity
- access for kindergarten educators and parents to information resources, including a pre-recorded information video covering research and learnings from clinical experience and infographics
- debrief with lead educator (phone/online), feedback survey and 30 days of email support for educator and parents
Price: $1100 (GST inc) (first group), $880 (GST inc) (subsequent groups of 15 children and one adult per child at the same kindergarten).

90-minute in-person workshop for up to 30 adults that includes:
- pre-meet with the lead educator (online/phone) to determine theme, room set up, any specific needs of children/kindergarten
- presentation about drawing with children and a hands-on drawing activity demonstrating tools, tips and tricks
- a sample of drawing materials and tools and printed information for each attendee to take home
- access for kindergarten educators and parents to information resources, including a pre-recorded information video covering research and learnings from clinical experience and infographics
- debrief with lead educator (phone/online), feedback survey and 30 days of email support for educator and parents
Price: $1650 (GST inc) for a maximum group size of 30 adults.

A 2 hour in-person training and coaching session (online can be arranged) for up to 12 educators from the same kindergarten program that includes:
- video or phone pre-meet with the lead educator to arrange session times, determine possible themes and foci etc
- if we are not providing incursions under the SK Incursion and Resource Package, a drawing activity designed for the educators to implement in the kindergarten, including materials and tools for the activity for up to 30 children (if online, postage additional)
- 2 hour live presentation for educators about drawing with children, including hands-on activity/activities
- access for kindergarten educators and parents to information resources, including a pre-recorded information video covering research and learnings from clinical experience and infographics
- de-brief with lead educator (phone/online) and 30 days of email support for educators
Price: $1650 (GST inc).

Take home packs: A specially curated pack of drawing tools, materials and resources for parents, carers and children to take home. Packs are priced between $30-$38 (GST inc) each.

Postage costs: Postage of take home packs to the kindergarten or to individual homes is additional and will be advised by Squiggle Kids. Postage of materials and tools for the SK Professional Training and Resource Package and any other package where required is additional and will be advised by Squiggle Kids.
Travel costs: Additional costs apply for travel in excess of 25kms to the kindergarten, including travel over a shorter distance made multiple times that exceeds the 25km total. To estimate travel costs, calculate the distance from Surrey Hills (Victoria) to the service and back multiplied by the number of trips. Travel is charged at $0.85 per km per person. Accommodation costs: Where Squiggle Kids attends a rural or regional location in Victoria (outside a 50km radius of the Melbourne CBD), accommodation is charged at $200 per person per night. For more, see the examples below.
To demonstrate the way travel and accommodation costs are applied, see the below examples:
- 4 incursion sessions held over 2 days in the South Eastern suburbs of Melbourne eg Frankston. Distance 91.2 kms (per trip, return) x 2 (trips) x $0.85 = $155.04
- 4 incursion sessions and 1 professional training workshop held over 2 days in Ballarat. Distance 262 kms (per trip, return) x 1 (trip) x $0.85 = $222.70. Plus $400 for one nights’ accommodation for two presenters. Total = $622.70.
Travel and accommodation costs can be reduced where we can coordinate session times with other kindergartens in an area. We also have a ‘pooling option’ available for our SK Professional Training and Resource package. Online delivery of the SK Professionals Training and Resource package can also be arranged.
