Workshops to inspire parents to draw with children

We offer workshops in two formats:

  • activity-based workshops for parents, carers, educators and children (Children’s workshops)
  • parent, carer and educator (adult-only) workshops (Parent workshops)

Presented by Debbie Isaac, a Melbourne-based paediatric occupational therapist and drawing enthusiast and Lauren Gardiner, a Melbourne mum of three and author of the baby + me book.

Founded in research, parental and clinical experience and including a hands-on, interactive component, our workshop programs promote learning and development through shared drawing activities for families with children up to
6 years of age.

In particular, our Squiggle Kids Workshops:

  • identify, based on research and clinical experience, the benefits of drawing and, particularly, drawing as a shared activity
  • help parents engage with a child’s drawings (including all those squiggles!)
  • explain the typical development of drawing skills in children and help parents identify activities and tools to engage children at different stages of development
  • give parents and carers tips for engaging children in drawing activities, including engaging reluctant and disinterested drawers
  • give parents ideas to help address common problems
  • help parents extend drawing activities to get the most out of drawing for the child
